I thought I knew love
It was my heart
beating faster
As though I'd run
a marathon of anticipation
I thought I knew love
It was the sheen of passion
on heated skin
Entwined limbs
in tangled sheets
Then I held you in my arms
For the very first time
Your tiny body flailing
Your red little face scrunching
Your lusty cry deafening
My world stopped, tilted
turned again, with you
now at the centre
of my universe
And it was then
I learned
what love really was
