Revenge

You gaze unseeing
at the flickering images
on the screen
I am smothered
in the interminable silence
enveloping me

A shroud
seething with memories
imprinting the breath
I suck into my lungs
reviving myself
with thoughts
that refresh my mind
of a time past
innocent of the bitterness
now tainting the air
poisoning the joy
that once wafted
through our lives
The gentle scent of love
leeched out
by the venom of distrust
seeping into my bones
escaping through my eyes

If looks could
indeed kill
I would be
the only one
breathing
deeply
inhaling
my revenge
